The SBI Method
As a clinician, I once worked with a parent whose child with ADHD was struggling to follow a daily school schedule. Teachers and professionals had recommended creating a list of daily and weekly tasks to help build organization and independence. The parent did their best to follow this advice, but their child consistently resisted the schedule - and no one could understand why.
When I asked the parent to bring the schedule to a therapy session, the reason became clear. The schedule was written in tiny handwriting on a small piece of paper - difficult to see, overwhelming, and unhelpful for a child who needed clarity and structure.
In that moment, I realized something important: advice alone is not enough. Parents often receive recommendations, but what’s missing is the how. How should a strategy look? How should it be implemented? And how can it be maintained over time? This gap between theory and practice is what inspired the creation of the SBI Method.
Why the SBI Method?
Parents of children with ADHD, Autism, executive functioning challenges, or anxiety are often overwhelmed with information from professionals, schools, and the internet. Yet even with the best intentions, implementing strategies consistently, and in a way that works for their child, can be a daily struggle.
With over 15 years of experience supporting neurodiverse families, I have seen firsthand how committed parents are to helping their children succeed. The challenge is not wanting to do what’s best - it’s knowing how to put strategies into practice effectively and sustainably. The SBI Method was designed to bridge that gap.
What are the SBI Method's goals?
1. To strengthen communication between parents and children by finding ways to support the child in expressing themselves effectively, and thereby reducing tantrums, meltdowns, anxiety, aggression, and avoidance behaviours.
2. To help children reach their potential by fostering growth in social, emotional, academic, and family life
What will parents gain through this workshop?
By the end of the SBI workshop, parents will walk away with practical, individualised strategies to:
-
Support their child in daily life tasks
-
Encourage positive, adaptive behaviors across environments
-
Build independence and coping skills at home
-
Develop self-directed learning strategies for school
At its heart, the SBI Method empowers parents with concrete, actionable tools (not just ideas!) so their children can thrive with confidence, independence, and resilience.
